La Calisto is one of the most captivating examples of Venetian Baroque at its peak, a subtle blend of comedy and tragedy supported by a rich and varied musical language. Beneath its humorous surface, exploring the fluidity and confusion of desire, the opera paints a bitter portrait of romantic relationships. Through the escapades of Jupiter and his court, director Jetske Mijnssen reveals the cruelty and selfishness of a society trapped in a web of dangerous liaisons. Sébastien Daucé brings out the musical treasures of this work, conducting his Ensemble Correspondances and a cast of exceptionally talented new-generation singers.
