The transmission of Pian’s Rite of Spring to thirty-four dancers from across the African continent is a spectacular display of intensity and truth. This timeless, borderless masterpiece stages, as envisioned by Stravinsky—whose score will be performed by Les Siècles—the sacrifice of the Chosen One during a relentless ritual marking the transition from winter to spring.
As a prelude, Germaine Acogny, regarded as the mother of contemporary African dance, will present a world premiere solo dedicated to Josephine Baker, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of her arrival in Paris.
