Tuesday, 21 May 2024 - 19:30
Théâtre des Champs-Elysées
Handel’s last opera pits two strong women against princes in a battle of love and politics. The plot is mind-bogglingly complicated. Berenice, the currently unmarried Queen of Egypt, loves Demetrio, Prince of Macedonia who loves Selene, Berenice’s sister. Selene also loves Demetrio, in secret and Prince Arsace loves Selene… But after many twists, the end will be a happy one.
The music conducted by Francesco Corti supports every dilemmas, between private love and public responsibility.
